The Many Worlds theory of quantum physics postulates that for every action that has two or more possible outcomes, the universe splits into many universes, each one following one of those possible worlds. It would only make sense, then, that the human consciousness would follow the branch of survival. If I attempt to commit suicide in such a way where there is a real chance of me living and a real chance of me dying, then the world splits. In one world I survive, while in the other I don't. My awareness follows the living branch as long as there is one.

The key is to avoid certain death.
